Twin Bridge Project Causes Continued Traffic Delays in Mississauga

Major Highway Work Continues Amid Lane Closures and Noise

The QEW in Mississauga is facing continued traffic delays as crews work on a new twin bridge over the Credit River. The lane closures, alternating between westbound and eastbound lanes, will be in place from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. until the end of Tuesday (July 15).

  • Lane closures will continue far beyond this week due to consistent weekly disruptions.
  • Overnight construction activities may cause noise.
  • Weather conditions may reschedule lane closures.

Impact on Residents and Drivers

The twin bridge project, which began three years ago, has been plagued by delays. The recent discovery of Indigenous artifacts near the work site has further slowed progress until archeologists can properly excavate the area. The $313.8-million project aims to rehabilitate the existing 840-ft.-long bridge.

History and Timeline

The project was first studied in 2013, with initial plans calling for demolition of the existing bridge. However, public outcry led to a change in plan, deciding instead to rehabilitate the existing span. Construction began in 2021/22 by EllisDon Corp. and Coco Paving Inc.

Road Closures

One lane on Premium Way will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays through July 31 due to related work on the QEW.

Traffic disruptions are expected during the lane closures, with two-way traffic maintained under flagging conditions at all times. Access to Dickson Road and Lynchmere Avenue will also remain available.

The completion date for the major bridge project remains unknown, but officials expect continued delays as they navigate through the complex construction process.
