In 2022, I wrote an article on the little incidents I've experienced on the circuit around race. Things like the time someone told me I shouldn't do 'p*ki' material just before I went on and did my first five-minute set at a big club in London.

I'm really happy to say in the three years since I wrote that article, racism has been completely solved by the powers-that-be and we're all living in perfect harmony, and as a result my career has totally plummeted.

Needless to say, these problems do still exist. A few months ago I did a gig in the middle of nowhere where the crowd were all white, and I was the only brown person on the bill.

This is often the case, and generally not an issue, and I don't think this is the end of the world. I grew up in a very white area. My school photo looks like a mid-Noughties Mock The Week line-up.

I was opening, it was a bit of a tough gig, but I did just about fine, and was feeling pretty good about it until the MC announced the dreaded joke competition.

The 18 audience members submitted seven little jokes on bits of tatty paper and handed them to the compere, who took them in and gave them all a skim read.

'No racist ones this time' he exclaimed.

He then went on stage and the first joke he read out after the interval was: 'What happens when a p*ki with an erection walks into a wall? He breaks his nose.'

Undeniably, a structurally sound joke. Contextually, racist in my opinion. Crucially, a tough one, because if I didn't laugh along it would have looked like I had a micropenis, which is an entirely separate rumour going round on the circuit that I'm keen to quash.

The rest of the jokes covered a myriad of topics including fatness, mothers-in-law and the fatness of their mothers-in-law.

In a landslide victory from the audience vote, the p*ki with an erection won best joke, and the author of the gag won two free tickets to the night next month.

It's not the worst thing that's ever happened. It's not even the worst thing that's happened to me at a gig. I didn't get booed off, no one threw anything, and I still got paid (eventually).

There's something about being in a room full of people laughing at a joke where the punchline is essentially you, especially after you've just done a set and brought some real big dick energy onto the stage.

Not sure what the moral of the story is, I guess if you read a racist joke on a bit of paper, don't read it out on stage. I think breaking the terms and conditions of your joke competition can handle it.

Also, I do admit it was a good joke, and I'm trying to get in contact with the author of it to see if I can use it in my set.

Valera Perez was taken into ICE custody Wednesday in Council Bluffs, Iowa, in an arrest celebrated by Nebraska politicians and the White House.

Federal authorities say that Varela Perez is one of the 100 most-wanted fugitives in El Salvador and that he's wanted in that country on charges of aggravated homicide of five victims, attempted aggravated homicide, deprivation of liberty and terrorist organization affiliation.

Federal court documents reviewed by The World-Herald say that Valera Perez admitted to being an MS-13 gang member to a U.S. Border Patrol agent on Sept. 22, 2016, at the Sarita, Texas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Checkpoint, after entering the country illegally a few days earlier through the Mexican border.

He pleaded guilty to entering the U.S. illegally and was turned over to the U.S Marshals.

A Douglas County Sheriff's Office traffic stop on July 6 of Rene Saul Escobar Ochoa, 30, a known associate of Valera Perez, led to their arrests.

The Sheriff's Office said in a press release Friday that Deputy Matthew Baber, along with his police dog, Jing, stopped Escobar Ochoa driving eastbound in a blue pickup truck near the 42nd Street exit on I-80 in Omaha.

Spencer Head, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office, said the blue pickup was merging without using a turn signal.

The Sheriff's Office said Baber "felt something wasn't quite right" during the traffic stop.

Head said Baber's feeling stemmed from Escobar Ochoa giving the deputy answers that "just didn't seem to add up."

Head declined to go into specifics, saying the information was "law enforcement sensitive." He said Escobar Ochoa presented a Texas driver's license to Baber.

The Sheriff's Office said Baber ran Escobar Ochoa's information through a federal database. The results showed that Escobar Ochoa was on an MS-13 watchlist.

Head said local and state law enforcement, including the Sheriff's Office, don't have the legal authority to arrest someone on a federal watchlist.

Additionally, since Escobar Ochoa was pulled over for a minor traffic violation, the deputy didn't have the legal authority to arrest him.

Baber released Escobar Ochoa and relayed the information to the Nebraska Information Analysis Center, run by the State Patrol and federal law enforcement officials.

Cody Thomas, a Nebraska State Patrol spokesperson, said the Nebraska Information Analysis Center developed information regarding "a known criminal illegal alien" in Omaha and shared it with Homeland Security.

"The NIAC Fusion Center is connected with law enforcement entities worldwide and works to quickly disseminate crucial information to keep communities safe in Nebraska and beyond," he said.

That ultimately led to ICE agents arresting Escobar Ochoa in North Omaha and Varela Perez in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Wednesday.

Escobar Ochoa is wanted in El Salvador for allegedly giving orders to fellow gang members to commit a variety of crimes, including multiple homicides, extortion, imprisonment and drug trafficking.

An ICE press release said U.S. Border Patrol first encountered him in 2023, and he was allowed to remain in the country.

As of July 12, Escobar Ochoa was being held at the Dakota County Jail, just south of South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Varela Perez is being held at the Hardin County Correctional Center in Iowa, about 80 miles north of Des Moines.

ICE said both men are in the country illegally and are coordinating with El Salvadoran authorities to deport them.

Following Baroness Manzoor's letter, the committee ordered the FOS to submit details of any severance deal or financial package and any confidentiality or non-disclosure agreement negotiated between the service and Ms Thomas.

Although the FOS complied with the order, the committee has not published the details, claiming its decision not to do so reflects "our awareness of the need to balance transparency against fairness to individuals."

In its report, the committee sums up the reason for Ms Thomas' dismissal as a "collapse in confidence" driven by "fundamental disagreements" over strategy and operations between the board and the former chief executive.

"This collapse in confidence covered a broad range of issues and was not driven by a single event or topic," it says.

"The mutual collapse in confidence led the FOS Board to dismiss Abby Thomas."

Treasury Committee chairwoman Dame Meg Hillier said the service's failure to block Commons scrutiny should send a "clear message" to others seeking to frustrate the process.

"I'm afraid that the handling of this situation by the senior leadership of the Financial Ombudsman Service has been deeply disappointing," she said.

"The attempt to frustrate a House of Commons Committee from scrutinising the actions of a publicly accountable organisation ultimately proved unsuccessful.

"I hope this sends a clear message to any organisation considering similar action in future that Members of the House of Commons will have answers to the questions they ask on behalf of the British public, whether senior officials attempt to block them or not."

Baroness Manzoor said: "I highly value the Treasury Select Committee and the important role it plays in holding the financial sector to account.

This was after Sinner arrived at three match points in the fourth set of his Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday.

Just as on the Parisian clay, 23-year-old Sinner was the better player for long periods. Just as at Roland Garros he had the title in his hands.

But unlike that day when three consecutive match points vanished in the fourth set and Alcaraz roared back to win the longest French Open final ever, this time the ice-cool Sinner was never going to be denied.

Alcaraz, who was bidding to become the only fifth man in the professional era to win three successive Wimbledon titles under the watchful eye of Spain's King Felipe in the Royal Box, saved one match point.

But this time there was no escape for Alcaraz as Sinner fired down an unreturnable serve.

There were no ecstatic celebrations either. Sinner raised his arms to the sky, before consoling the man he de-throned and headed off in time-honoured fashion to embrace those in his box.

"Back in the days when I was young, this was only a dream, because it was so far away from where I'm from," the man from the Dolomites who could have become a top skier, said on court.

"Emotionally I had a very tough loss in Paris. So I'm very happy that I held my nerves and yeah, it's an amazing feeling."

It was Sinner's fourth Grand Slam trophy and his first title since returning from a short doping ban.

This was after testing positive for a banned substance which inadvertently entered his system from a member of his support team through massages and sports therapy.

While Sunday's duel contained some mind-boggling points, it lacked the twists of last month's Roland Garros roller-coaster.

It did, though, underline why the Sinner-Alcaraz rivalry is set to dominate men's tennis for the foreseeable future.

Sinner did benefit from a stroke of luck when Grigor Dimitrov retired while two sets up in the fourth round.

"He caught a break, no question," his coach Darren Cahill admitted.

But from that point on, Sinner barely put a foot wrong.

Alcaraz, below his best, was always vulnerable to Sinner's crisp, early ball-striking but still hit back from a slow start.

He clinched the first set with a stretching backhand sliced winner from an impossible position.

Sinner grabbed an early break in the second though and consolidated it despite a bizarre moment when a Champagne cork popping and landed on the court -- prompting loud boos.

Just as Alcaraz sealed the opening set in style, Sinner produced a moment of magic to take the second, whipping an audacious forehand winner at full elastic stretch.

The third set felt crucial and after a lull it was Alcaraz who blinked, dropping serve at 4-4 after a slide and slip on the baseline allowed Sinner to guide away a winner.

Sinner held serve to move one set from history but after what happened in Paris, the finishing line still felt far away.

But the usual Alcaraz exuberance was missing and he was scowling after Sinner clubbed away a backhand winner off a short second serve to gain an early break in the fourth.
