Union Minister Amit Shah has issued a strong call to action for the cooperative sector, urging leaders to prioritize transparency, technology, and the interests of its members as core tenets of their “work culture.” Speaking at the fourth foundation day event of the Ministry of Cooperation on the campus of Amul Dairy in Anand, Gujarat, Shah emphasized the crucial role of these factors in achieving sustainable success for the cooperative movement.

Here’s a breakdown of the key takeaways from Amit Shah’s address:

* Technology is Essential: Shah stressed that without embracing technological advancements, cooperatives cannot achieve prosperity.

* Member Focus: Prioritizing the interests of members—specifically farmers and cooperative society members—is paramount.

* Transparency: Promoting transparent operations is a cornerstone of success.

* Nationwide Propagation: The Minister urged the cooperative sector to spread these principles across India, from Jammu and Kashmir to Assam, and every village.

* Five ‘P’s’ for Growth: Shah outlined five key pillars – People, PACs (Primary Agricultural Credit Societies), Platforms (digital), Policy, and Prosperity – for the sector’s continued development.

The event saw the launch of ten new initiatives, including the establishment of a salt cooperative in Gujarat, designed to build a strong brand like Amul. Over the past four years, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the cooperative sector has experienced significant growth, with the registration of 2 lakh Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACs), the foundation of Tribhuvan – the first national cooperative university – and the creation of three new national cooperatives in the dairy sector. Shah highlighted the impressive annual turnover of Amul, projected to reach Rs 1 lakh crore next year from Rs 80,000 crore.

Furthermore, Shah honored Syama Prasad Mookerjee, dedicating the occasion to his contribution to the nation. He underscored Mookerjee's sacrifice for Kashmir, reiterating the importance of unity and national identity, and also acknowledged the transformation of the Jan Sangha, which evolved into the BJP, a global political powerhouse. New infrastructure expansions at Amul, including a mozzarella cheese facility and UHT plant, were also inaugurated.

Ultimately, Amit Shah's message is clear: the future of India's cooperative sector depends on embracing innovation, prioritizing its members, and upholding principles of transparency and national unity.
