📱 Instagram CEO almost fell victim to a new Google fraud scheme
Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, revealed on Threads how he almost fell for a very convincing scam disguised as an official notice from Google.
🔎 What happened:
- The scammer called a phone number posing as a Google employee
- Then sent an email from the address
forms-receipts-noreply@google.com
. - The email contained a link to
sites.google.com/view/...
where the user had to confirm their identity - The user was first taken to the real Google login page and then to a fake support page
🧠 *"If I didn't know about this from a friend, I would almost believe it," Mosseri admitted.
⚠️ Why it's dangerous
✔ Emails go through anti-spam filters
✔ Uses real Google domains that are trusted.
✔ Visually, it's a full copy of a real Google support page
🛡️ What to do:
- Always check the URL in full, especially after logging into your account
- Do not click on links from emails and calls without verification
- Enable two-factor authentication.
- If in doubt, exit and go to Google manually
📬 NakMo reminds:
No matter how tech-savvy you are - attention is more important than confidence. Scammers are evolving, and even an Instagram CEO can be on the verge of making a mistake.
