WhatsApp is testing a built-in AI assistant for writing messages on iPhone. The new feature appears in the latest beta version of the app and aims to make communication easier by automatically matching wording.
How the AI assistant works
When users type text into the message field, a "Writing Help" button appears. Once activated, AII offers up to three alternatives for each phrase.
The user can choose a style from five available modes:
- 📝 Phrasing - simplifies and makes text clearer.
- 💼 Professional - gives a business-like tone.
- 😂 Funny - adds humor.
- 🤝 Supportive - makes the message more friendly.
- ✅ Correct - corrects mistakes.
Data Privacy
Meta emphasizes that:
- the assistant is disabled by default and requires manual activation;
- all messages are encrypted;
- user data is not stored and is processed anonymously.
What's next
A similar feature is already available in the Android version, but now WhatsApp is expanding testing to Apple devices. The feature is expected to become available to a wider audience in upcoming updates.
