What's gonna change?
- 🤖 Gemini will be able to act as an offline assistant - set alarms, make calls, open apps, etc.
- 🔐 Privacy will be improved - even with Gemini Activity disabled, basic commands will be available
- 📦 Google Assistant will remain until the end of 2025, but is no longer necessary
- ⚙️ Feature translation is being phased in, with a focus on Android and Pixel integration
Why is this important?
This is the first time an LLM-based AI assistant is able to perform offline functions previously only available with cloud access. It's a step towards more local and private AI, especially against the backdrop of increased competition from Apple and Samsung.
