Google has released a new update to Pixel Buds Pro 2 with firmware version 4.467, which brings several long-awaited features at once. These features were announced back at the Made by Google presentation in August and are now becoming available to owners of the headphones.
Adaptive Audio - smart noise control
The main innovation is the Adaptive Audio mode. The headphones now automatically adjust the level of Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and transparency depending on the environment. This allows you to:
- comfortably listen to music in transit or outdoors;
- not miss important sounds around you;
- get a natural balance between silence and external noise.
Google has also implemented protection against loud sounds. The headphones reduce the volume at sudden bursts - for example, when a siren goes off or the noise of construction equipment.
Improvements for Gemini Live
There is also good news for users of the Gemini Live voice assistant. Sound processing algorithms now prioritize the owner's voice and effectively suppress extraneous noise. This noticeably improves the quality of communication in noisy environments.
Head Gesture Control
Instead of tapping, you can now use head gestures:
- nod - to accept a call or start dictating an answer;
- a slight negative motion to reject a call or notification.
This way of control makes interaction with Pixel Buds Pro 2 more natural and convenient, especially in situations where your hands are full.
When an update becomes available
Firmware distribution of 4.467 has already begun. Installation takes about 20 minutes along with downloading.
Why it's important
With the release of the new firmware, Google strengthens the Pixel Buds Pro 2's position in the wireless headphone market. Adaptive Audio and gesture control make the model even more competitive with Apple and Samsung.
