Netflix Begins Production on Assassin’s Creed Live-Action Series
After five years in development limbo, the game-to-screen adaptation moves forward with Westworld and Halo veterans at the helm
AMP Version
Ubisoft and Netflix have officially begun production on the long-awaited live-action adaptation of Assassin’s Creed. First announced back in 2020, the series has now moved out of early development and into active production.
The show is being developed by Roberto Patino (Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, Brave New World), both longtime fans of the franchise since its 2007 debut. The creative duo released a joint statement describing the series as a deep, philosophical story set against a backdrop of action and spectacle:
“Behind the scale, parkour, and sharp thrills lies the core of the most human story: about people searching for meaning, identity, and belief.
It’s about power, violence, sex, greed, and revenge.
But above all, it’s a story about human connection—across cultures and centuries—and what we stand to lose when those connections break.”
Core Themes of the Series
Theme | Description |
Identity & Belief | Characters wrestle with questions of who they are and what they believe |
Power & Control | A secret war between two factions — one manipulates, the other resists |
Freedom vs Order | The age-old battle between free will and authoritarian control |
Time & Legacy | Stories unfold across eras, echoing universal human struggles |
What’s the Plot?
The Assassin’s Creed series centers on the clandestine war between two ancient organizations:
- The Templars, who seek to control humanity’s future through domination and manipulation
- The Assassins, who fight to preserve individual freedom and free will
While details remain under wraps, the adaptation is expected to blend historical drama, sci-fi intrigue, and action-packed parkour — hallmarks of the video game series.
What Else Is Coming?
Netflix has also confirmed another Ubisoft adaptation:
🎥 Splinter Cell: Deathwatch
An anime based on the classic stealth-action game series.
